About this dojo

Hi – I’m Steve – I lead training here at Bujinkan Kemsing Dojo.

I’ve been a life-long student of Japanese martial arts and I found a great fit for me in 2006 when I started training in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. I’ve been training regularly since then with my teacher – David Heslington at Bujinkan Sevenoaks Dojo as well as whenever I can make other classes in the local area – see my guide to the other training that you can attend. I travelled to Japan by myself for the first time in 2006 to train at the Honbu Dojo – our school’s global headquarters. I fell in love with the culture and the training and I’ve been returning there once, twice, sometimes three times a year to further my understanding.

In 2014 – at the Honbu Dojo in Japan – I passed the sakki test in the presence of the head of the school – Masaaki Hastumi Soke – where I received my 5th dan grading and instructor’s certification.

I’d been helping run classes at Bujinkan Sevenoaks during periods where my teacher was injured or unavailable and from time-to-time I’ve held my own training sessions to work on specific concepts with others from our classes.

Then in 2018 I felt that I could commit enough time regularly to start a class here in Kemsing and begin to share what I’ve learned so far whilst exploring the possibilities of this amazing martial art with anyone that is keen to learn.
I’m currently ranked as a 10th dan in this art.
